The Jesse Tree is a familiar decoration in the weeks of Advent.

The name Jesse in Hebrew has the meaning "God exists".

In the middle ages the Jesse Tree became very popular in showing the genealogy of Jesus, as a family tree using symbols to represent the different personages.

This was a teaching aid for all those unable to read or to afford a Bible.

Welcome to the Jesse Box

The main purpose of the box is to introduce children to scripture stories and to help you in the process of passing the faith to your children. Today we live in a society that is always searching for understanding and answers to the meaning of our life and this is good, but sometimes we can spend all our time and energy wanting to explain our life and it A4 cutoutpasses by. Jesus says “I have come so you may have life and have it to the full”.

Here at the Jesse Box we believe the scriptures hold the key to many of life’s questions and by introducing our children to them in a simple, fun and exciting way we place foundations for the future.

The Jesse box contains 9 wooden animals, 11 wooden cones together with printouts of the backgrounds, props, characters and a booklet guide for Advent, Christmas and The Epiphany and Lent and Easter.

Cut out the characters with your children (no scissors provided) wrap them around the correct size cone, stick them with a glue stick (not provided) and you have your character for the story. You also cut out the props. It's very simple and lots of fun. The children are engaged straight away, this is the key.

Over the next few years we will populate our web site with a multitude of Bible stories, together with the characters and scenes, for you to download once you have made the once off purchase. You will then have access to all the other material on line for FREE for your family or class. The Jesse Box will help all these wonderful stories come alive and our explanatory notes will help you develop each narrative.

A way to learn
We gain knowledge through three main learning methods. All three of these elements are incorporated in the Jesse Box.

First: by the telling and listening to the story;

Second: by seeing how the story comes to life;

Third: by interacting and physically creating the different parts of the story.

The children are encouraged to create and move the figures as the story unfolds.
We consider the best atmosphere to generate this is in the family home. The parent or guardian tells the story, paraphrasing the passage according to the level of those present. We have supplied you with guidelines to help with this.

We also have games and puzzels to go with each story.

The choice is yours whether you just want to tell the story by creating the scenes with the beautiful diorama, or if you want to use this interactive tool to pass faith to your children by exposing them to the bible in an existential way.

We hope you will enjoy creating, developing and bringing to life these amazing stories with your children.
We hope that this Jesse Box will become an aid to explore the history of salvation through the word of God for you, your family and your community.

Testimonial

"This is ingenious and really child and family friendly. You could use this idea for all kinds of faith formation and pastoral work.
I can't wait to use the Jesse Box with my students who are being formed as teachers.
I'll definitely use this with my own kids."
